The Santa Maria Valley Economic Development Commission (EDC) is the regions local resource providing advocacy when needed while continuously promoting economic growth and building long lasting economic vitality throughout the Santa Maria Valley and its surrounding area. We provide programs and resources that reinforce growth, expansion, attraction and sustainability for existing business and potential future businesses. Our focus remains on business growth, job growth, future economic growth and sustaining a strong, vibrant and beautiful place to live, work and play.

The Santa Maria Valley Economic Development Commission is comprised of a diverse volunteer base of the various industries represented in the Santa Maria Valley appointed by our partners (Santa Maria Airport & City of Santa Maria) and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber Board of Directors. The Commission provides guidance on the creation of an annual Economic Development Action Plan and implementation.

The EDC is a public-private partnership between the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, the City of Santa Maria, and the Santa Maria Public Airport District.
The proud City of Santa Maria was named an all American city in 1998. Being a dynamic and prosperous place to work, live and raise a family with its mild year-round climate and backdrop of coastline, wine country, and abundant rich agriculture surroundings is home to an energetic workforce, commercial and industrial-zoned land, airport and locally-owned railroad. With a beautiful backdrop of coastline and wine country, world-famous Santa Maria Style BBQ, Elks Rodeo, and the Santa Barbara County Fair, provides unlimited year-round recreation and leisure opportunities. Businesses come to Santa Maria to enjoy the energetic workforce, excellent schools, low crime, great weather, wonderful air quality and abundant water and industries as diverse as aerospace manufacturing, oil and gas production, biomedical, world-class wineries, tourism, and a wide range of companies supporting the nation’s space defense and research mission housed at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Known for one of the longest runways, Santa Maria Public Airport (SMX) serves areas as far north as the wine country of Paso Robles and south to the historic beauty of Santa Barbara. With the longest runway on the Central Coast, and with continued improvements geared toward growth, the Santa Maria Public Airport is a welcome location for future business and expansion and is currently working on launching a Business Park with 200+ acres designated for office and light industrial uses. The airport is customer friendly, spacious, provides free parking and Wi-Fi and many other accommodations.
Being the largest business organization in Northern Santa Barbara County The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce represents small businesses, corporations, associations, and individual professionals since 1902. The Chamber has worked diligently to better the area’s business climate, forge a stronger community, and improve the quality of life. The Chamber works with local government, education, private industry and a host of other partners to improve the business environment and promote Santa Maria as a premier community in which to vacation, live, work, and do business. Through participation in the Chamber, members are able to accomplish collectively what they could not do individually. Through its Visitor & Convention Bureau and Economic Development Commission programs, the Chamber of Commerce plays a leading role in promoting tourism, attracting new businesses, retaining and assisting existing businesses to grow and succeed
